From the page: "As promised, this post will list a number of minor changes that have added up to significant savings in electricity usage at our house. I didn't track how much each of these amounted to individually, and some are probably pretty small, but they really do add up."

From the page: "So why have we chosen to leave all that was familiar and comfortable? In the past few years, dad and I began to worry about the nature of this country. We began to worry about the decline of energy and the lack of local food. We understood that everything that we used or did had oil in the equation. Our experiments within the confines of the city were great â€" we learned how to can, we learned to garden, we made butter, and ground wheat into flour. "

From the page: "One podcasts that I have really enjoyed listening to recently is the KunstlerCast. James Howard Kunstler, author of The Long Emergency and The Geography of Nowhere, and host Duncan Crary share the microphone weekly to comment on the "tragic comedy of suburban sprawl."

Every time I read this, I can't believe it's true. In Colorado you only have the "right" to use your municipal water once, and it is illegal to use rain barrels to catch run off.
Unbelievable!

From the page: "Senators and members of Congress do not have to disclose anything about their home mortgages â€" not how much they borrowed, from whom they borrowed it or what interest rate they paid.
But amid allegations that Countrywide Financial Corp. offered special mortgage deals to two senators, itâ€s suddenly useful to know who has been lending money to the members of the greatest deliberative body in the world.
The Senate Ethics Committee has already launched an investigation into the preferential treatment afforded to the two senators in question, Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) and Kent Conrad (D-N.D.), and leading Republicans in the House have called for a wider investigation into whether other lawmakers received any discount rates on their mortgages."
